The route

Jordán, ringed by towering mountains with the river beside you, is the perfect setting for the start. Two flat kilometers along the river and then, suddenly, a brutal 1,200-meter climb: the heat and the rugged path are rewarded with an unrivaled view of the Chicamocha Canyon, which you leave behind step by step.

After El Punto (km 8.4) come fast traverses across wide farmland to Villanueva (km 15.4). Then a short climb on the Tierra Negra trail, past the Cuartel de Bolívar, and a quick descent into Barichara (km 23.9), where your crew can support you.

From Barichara the route climbs toward the antennas to the Hotel Carigua checkpoint (km 33), the marathon's high point at 1,811 m. San Gil is already in sight, but it's an illusion: the descent winds on for 13 kilometers. You run through the streets of San Gil and reach the finish knowing you've overcome every obstacle on the course and every goal you set in training.

The marathon has three cut-offs: Villanueva (5 h of race time), Barichara (7 h 30 min) and the finish in San Gil (13 h). Barichara is the marathon's authorized crew-access checkpoint (PCAA): one supporter per runner may give you food, drinks, clothing or a massage. Your supporters may be with you from 100 m before to 100 m after the checkpoint; anywhere else it counts as unauthorized assistance.

  • Cut-off: the latest time you may leave each checkpoint. If you leave later, you are out of the race under the rules. The organization may adjust cut-offs for safety reasons or unforeseen events.
  • Cut-offs marked ≈ are approximate and meant to help you plan your pace.
  • There are no disposable cups at the aid stations: drinks are served only in your personal cup.
