Runner makes his way along a cobbled colonial street as spectators cheer from the stone steps

Families and supporters

Spectator guide

Behind every runner is their greatest strength: their people. Where to cheer, when they'll pass, how to follow them live and the rules for supporting them.

Everyone is part of the race

Support them on the course or from anywhere in the world

We know that behind every runner comes their greatest strength: their family, their supporters and the good energy of the spectators. So here are the places, times and tips to follow your runner.

  • Saturday June 5: the 100 miles start at 8:00 a.m. and pass through Curití, Aratoca and Panachi into the night.
  • Sunday June 6: the big day. The 80K starts in San Gil and the marathon and half marathon in Jordán; runners pass through Villanueva and Barichara and, all day and all night, arrive at the finish at the Plazoleta Guanentá of Centro Comercial El Puente.
  • Monday June 7: the last 100-mile runners come in and the awards ceremony, open to the public, starts at 8:30 a.m.

  • On course

    Cheering spots

The authorized assisted checkpoints (PCAA) and the finishes are the best places to watch your runner go by and, at the PCAAs, to help them.

Getting around

Transport for supporters

Public transport

Buses leave every 15 to 30 minutes from San Gil's small intercity terminal (carrera 10 with calle 17, phone +57 607 724 2155) for Curití, Villanueva, Barichara, Aratoca and Chicamocha National Park. There is no overnight service: ask when the last bus back to San Gil leaves. Getting back from Aratoca or Panachi by public transport at night may not be easy; for Villanueva and Barichara, it's best to go and return during the day.

Barichara is 30 minutes from San Gil by car. Return tickets are sold at the transport office on the Barichara main square.

Organization buses

When the organization offers rides for supporters, you book them through the bus form and confirm them at the organization's tent during kit pick-up, where you pay and get your ticket.

Ride sharing

Share a car with other runners and spectators in the WhatsApp group: fewer emissions, more company.

Jordán and Pitiguao

  • Jordán, the marathon and half marathon start, is not a good spot for supporters: the organization does not provide spectator transport there and, in recent editions, the main road was under construction and family assistance was not allowed.
  • Pitiguao (km 33.7 of the 100 miles) is a pass-through checkpoint. In 2025, family assistance there was canceled because of roadworks: before you go, check the news for road conditions.

Rules for supporters

How to help without hurting your runner

Supporters are part of each runner's team, and the runner is accountable for their actions under the rules.
What is a PCAA and what can I do there?

Authorized assisted checkpoints (PCAA) are the only places where you may assist your runner: give them food, drinks, clothing, a massage or information. Mandatory gear always stays with the runner. The race has allowed this kind of crew support since 2018, because we know family is part of every achievement.

How many supporters can enter the PCAA?

One per runner, and only once your runner is arriving at the checkpoint. That way there is room and comfort for everyone. The organization looks after every runner equally, with or without a supporter.

Can I run alongside my runner?

Only from 100 meters before a PCAA or the finish to 100 meters after it. Pacing them elsewhere, running the course or entering competition areas counts as unauthorized assistance and costs your runner a one-hour penalty each time. Don't leave objects on the course for them to pick up, or collect anything they leave behind.

Can I wait for them inside the finish area?

No. The finish area is reserved for staff and arriving runners: meet them outside the marked zone. Monday's awards ceremony is open to the public and streamed live.

Where can I get official information about my runner?

At the start and finish, and at any time on the live results page. No participant information is given by phone. The emergency numbers printed on the bib are for runners in the race only: do not use them for questions.

Which environmental guidelines should I follow?

Bring your own cup, avoid disposable cups, leave your waste in the organization's bins and never on the trails, and respect the community, the race staff and the canyon's nature. Read the environmental plan.

The energy of the course and the finish

What if next year you run?

Four distances, from 24 km to 100 miles, to experience the canyon from the inside.
