Four ways to experience the canyon

Every route meets in Jordán, at the bottom of the Chicamocha Canyon, and shares the climb up the royal road to Villanueva and Barichara. The difference is how far you want to run before and after.

Pairs category

Many runners dream of the 80K or the 100 miles but don't want to take it on alone, or simply want a different experience. The pairs category is for them.

  • Two people, any age or gender, in a single category per distance.
  • Each member meets the requirements for their distance and carries their own mandatory gear.
  • You run together from start to finish and may help each other: a push, a pull or carrying part of the load.
  • The team's time is that of the second runner to cross each checkpoint and the finish.
  • Medals for the first three pairs and a finisher medal for each member. There is no prize money.

On the registration platform choose the 80 km parejas or 100 millas parejas ticket and register both runners at the same time.

FAQ

Before you choose your distance

Which distance is right for me?
  • Half marathon: 23.9 km with the big climb out of the canyon, rated high difficulty. Race it, or hike it with guides in the hikers category.
  • Marathon: 46 km and 2,338 m of climbing, in the heat and with much of the course on technical terrain. A tough one-day challenge.
  • 80K: designed for runners stepping up to ultra distance. You must have finished a trail race of at least 42 km.
  • 100 miles: the crown jewel, with one or two nights on the course. You must have finished at least 70 km of trail.
How do I get to the start in Jordán?

The half marathon and marathon start in Jordán, at the bottom of the canyon, about 2 h 30 min – 3 h from San Gil. The organization takes runners on buses that leave in the early hours from El Puente Shopping Center; there are also extra departures on Saturday, booked in advance. Check the times in the schedule and on your distance page.

Can my family support me during the race?

Yes, at the authorized crew-access checkpoints (PCAA), where one supporter per runner may give you food, drinks, clothing or a massage:

  • Half marathon and marathon: Barichara.
  • 80K: Villanueva and Barichara.
  • 100 miles: Pitiguao, Curití, Aratoca, Panachi, Villanueva and Barichara.

They may accompany you from 100 m before to 100 m after the checkpoint. Anywhere else it counts as unauthorized assistance and is penalized.

What happens if I miss a cut-off?

The cut-off is the latest time you may leave a checkpoint. If you don't check out in time, you are out of the race, and once a checkpoint closes the organization's services there end. If you decide to withdraw, do it at a checkpoint and hand your bib to the judge, or report it immediately to the race incident line printed on your bib. Transport from where you withdraw is at your own expense.

Why doesn't my watch match the official data?

Distance and elevation may vary between watches, apps and mapping software. To plan your race, go by the kilometer marks in the official checkpoint table for your distance.

Where can I see the full weekend schedule?

Kit pick-up, starts, buses, finishes and the awards ceremony are all in the schedule. Full course descriptions and maps for each route are on the routes page.
