FAQ

Kit, documents and logistics

Can someone else collect my bib?

Yes. If you can't attend check-in, send that person with your mandatory gear for inspection, the signed kit collection authorization form (with your name, distance and category) and a signed copy of your ID. You must have already uploaded your signed liability waiver and the other requirements for your distance through the documents form.

Which documents should I bring to kit pick-up?

Only your ID. The copy of your ID, the liability waiver, the medical certificate and the race certificate (the last two only for the 80K and 100 miles) are uploaded beforehand through the documents form.

What documents do minors need?

The minor authorization form, signed by a parent or the responsible adult, plus the documents every runner uploads beforehand through the form. The form is also presented on paper at kit pick-up.

What if I don't bring my complete mandatory gear to check-in?

You won't receive your bib. Presenting all your mandatory gear, complete and in good condition, is required. We ask for it for your safety: some items are key in an emergency. During the race, the organization may check gear at random and apply the rules to anyone missing items.

Are there any course changes?

The routes are the same as in 2025, published with elevation profiles and tracks on each distance's page. If anything changes before the race, registered runners are informed and the website is updated.

How do I find my bib number?

A few weeks before the race, bib number, category and distance lookup opens. Type your ID number (no symbols, dots, commas or spaces), your first name or your last name into a single field.

How do I get to the start of my distance?

The 100 miles and 80K start and finish in San Gil. The marathon and half marathon start in Jordán, 2.5 to 3 hours from San Gil, and the organization provides transport:

  • Sunday 2:00 a.m.: marathon bus. Sunday 3:30 a.m.: half marathon bus. Both leave from Centro Comercial El Puente (Metro stairs).
  • Saturday 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.: extra departures, subject to availability, for runners sleeping in Jordán.
  • Barichara – Jordán, 3:00 a.m.: optional ride at extra cost.

Book through the bus form and confirm your ticket at the organization's tent during kit pick-up. The half marathon finishes in Barichara, where you get your return bus ticket to San Gil. In Jordán, hot potato broth and aguapanela await you before the start.

Is there a bag drop?

Yes, for the marathon and half marathon. If you sleep in Jordán on Saturday night, hand in a white bag on Sunday, closed and labeled with your bib number, name and distance, to the logistics staff before 6:15 a.m., and sign the log. It's returned in San Gil from 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. The organization is not responsible for other bags or their contents, which are not checked.

FAQ

The race and your trip

It's my first time. How does the race work?

What is Chicamocha Canyon Race? Colombia's most anticipated trail race, based in San Gil, with a course through the Chicamocha Canyon and seven towns in Santander. It has been held since 2013 and was voted Colombia's best trail race and best trail route in 2024.

What is trail running? Walking or running through the mountains: trails, historic stone paths, back roads, streams and old bridges, with big climbs and technical descents.

How does it work? Everyone follows the same course, marked by the organization, with checkpoints (PCs) offering drinks, food and medical care. Even so, every runner carries mandatory gear and their own supplies. The format is non-stop: you decide where to walk, run or rest, and there are no beds at any checkpoint. Each distance has a time limit and rankings are chip-timed. Checkpoints are published in advance so you can plan your race.

Why four days? Because the event lasts four days and three nights: kit pick-up on Friday and Saturday, the 100-mile start on Saturday, the other distances on Sunday and the awards on Monday.

What's the course and the weather like?

The Great Chicamocha Canyon, San Gil (Colombia's adventure sports capital) and the surrounding towns set the stage: demanding courses, contrasts in altitude and temperature, ancient paths first walked by Indigenous peoples and later by colonial-era trade, and towns steeped in history.

Inside the canyon it's hot, between 20 and 40 °C (68–104 °F) depending on the time of day and the sun. At night, at the highest points or in the rain, temperatures on the ultra distances can drop to 12 °C (54 °F).

Where can I find the technical information for each distance?

Each distance has its own page with map, track, elevation profile, water and food points, cut-offs and mandatory gear: 100 miles, 80K, marathon and half marathon.

How do the awards work?

The ceremony for all distances is on Monday June 7, 2027 at 8:30 a.m. at Centro Comercial El Puente.

  • Medals for first, second and third in each distance and age group, men and women.
  • Prize money and sponsor prizes for the top three overall in each distance, men and women. Not for age groups.
  • Raffles for every participant who takes the start.

More details in Awards.

How can my family and friends follow me?

In person, on the course or at the finish, or from anywhere through the live results page and the YouTube live streams. The spectator guide has passing points and times, how to get there, where crew access is allowed and how to get around.

What is the runners' expo?

During kit pick-up at Centro Comercial El Puente you'll find top sports brands, cultural and travel information about the towns on the course, and the #ChicamochaLovers store with sports gear and race souvenirs. Meet our partner brands.

How can I join the environmental plan?

Follow these tips before, during and after the race, and share them with your supporters:

  1. Bring your personal cup and refuse single-use plastic or polystyrene cups everywhere.
  2. Carry your waste and leave it in the organization's color-coded bins. Never drop it on the trails.
  3. Share rides: join the WhatsApp group for runners and spectators.

Read the full plan in Eco-responsibility.

How do I get to San Gil and where do I stay?

San Gil, the tourism capital of Santander, and towns like Barichara offer a wide range of places to stay. The organization's transport to Jordán and back from Barichara leaves from San Gil.
