New Pairs category for the ultra distances

You can now run the 80 km and 100 miles as a pair: two runners, one team, from start to finish. Here is how the new category works.

80 km and 100 miles

Many runners want to take on 80 kilometers or 100 miles but don't dare to do it alone, or simply want a different experience. For them we have created the new Pairs category.

How does it work? Two people make up a pair, regardless of age or gender. There is a single Pairs category in each distance, and each runner must meet the rules requirements for the chosen distance.

Registration

Each runner registers in the Pairs category of their distance and has all the rights and obligations of any runner in that distance, except for the rules specific to this category.

  • Choose the 80 km Pairs or 100 miles Pairs ticket: this option registers both people at the same time.
  • If you register separately, select the Pairs option in the questions form and let the organizers know so we can update you in the system.

Prizes

  • Medals for the first three pairs to finish the course in full compliance with the rules.
  • In-kind or sponsor prizes, subject to availability.
  • Individual finisher medals.
  • No cash prizes in this category.
  • A Pairs runner never ranks individually, either in the overall gender standings or in any age category: they rank only in the Pairs category of their distance.

Help during the race

As a team, one runner may help their partner by giving them a boost, pushing them or carrying their gear. Mandatory gear is individual and each team member must carry it at all times.

Additional rules

  • Starts and finishes. Both runners must start together from the start line and stay together for the whole course. The team's time is that of the second runner to cross the finish line. The same applies at every checkpoint and cut-off.
  • Withdrawal. If one runner withdraws, their partner must accompany them to the next checkpoint or until the organizers evacuate them in an emergency.
  • Continuing alone. A runner who wants to continue after their partner withdraws must be authorized and recorded on the judge's sheet at the nearest checkpoint. They will receive a finisher medal and keep all the organizers' support services, but will have no official time in the system and no ranking in the overall, Pairs or age-category standings.
  • Penalties. Any penalty given to one runner applies to the team. If an item of mandatory gear is missing, the time penalty applies to the team; if both runners are penalized, since mandatory gear is individual, the penalties are added together.
  • Expulsion. If one runner is expelled, the sanction applies to the team.
