National Trail and Mountain Championship event. San Gil, Santander, Chicamocha Canyon (Colombia), June 20–23, 2025. Edition number 13.

A resounding success for CCR2025

The thirteenth edition of Chicamocha Canyon Race, held from June 20 to 23, was a resounding success that exceeded every expectation. A year of work and a great organizing team overcame every challenge and delivered an excellent result, positioning San Gil and Santander as a host of world-class sporting events.

The challenge was threefold: this was not only the 13th edition of the race, but the event also became part of the National Trail Running and Mountain Championship, in partnership with the Colombian Athletics Federation, and one of its distances was a qualifier for the Trail and Mountain Running World Championships to be held in Spain in September. CCR2025 was also part of the Latin American Trail Circuit (CLT), which we have run together with races from eleven other countries for three years, and whose prize is qualification and a trip to Peru in August.

192 kilometers of trails across four distances linked the great Chicamocha Canyon with seven towns (San Gil, Mogotes, Curití, Aratoca, Jordán, Villanueva and Barichara) along old mule trails and rural roads. With changeable weather, from rain to the region's blazing sun, mud was another obstacle to overcome, but the encouragement of the people of Santander made these four days of mountain celebration even greater: 49 hours of racing cheered on by crews and spectators.

Every forecast was surpassed: more than 1,100 runners from 30 countries, including more than 170 from Santander, 1,000 Colombians from 21 departments and 130 international runners from 29 nations. Records fell in several distances, and more than four thousand companions made an impressive backdrop for a great sporting spectacle that also boosted tourism and the regional economy.

Special thanks to the Santander Governor's Office, Inder Santander, public and private organizations, the town halls and the Colombian Athletics Federation for trusting us; to the CLT countries, the athletes, all our staff and the public. Thank you all: bigger things lie ahead. Let's go for more!

And we close with great news: we have applied to host the 2026 South American Trail and Mountain Running Championships and the 2027 Trail and Mountain Running World Championships, and the process to formalize them is under way. We have already shown that we have the best setting and organization, so we must build a strong public–private alliance. The benefit will be for Santander and for Colombia. We will all be there!
