We are an eco-responsible race

More than a race, a commitment to the planet: how we reduce our impact and protect the Chicamocha Canyon, with the help of every runner.

Chicamocha Canyon Race: more than a race, a commitment to the planet.

The majestic Chicamocha Canyon is not only the setting for one of the most challenging and spectacular trail races around: it is also a priceless ecosystem that deserves our utmost respect and care. At Chicamocha Canyon Race we understand that responsibility, which is why we have made a firm commitment to be an eco-responsible race.

Our goal goes beyond organizing a top-level sporting event. We work to minimize our environmental impact and to promote the conservation of the incredible natural setting that hosts us.

Concrete actions for a sustainable canyon

  1. Conscious materials. Goodbye to unnecessary plastic: we use biodegradable cups, plates and other materials at aid stations and throughout the event logistics.
  2. Waste management. We run a clear waste-sorting system at strategic points and separate waste to make recycling and proper disposal easier, reducing what ends up in landfill.
  3. Committed runners. Responsibility is shared. We ask every participant to:
  • Carry their own hydration system (bottles or bladder) to reduce the use of disposable cups.
  • Drop any waste (gels, wrappers) only at the designated points. The policy is clear: leave no trace on the trail.
  1. Education and awareness. We inform runners, teams and the local community about the importance of protecting the canyon and about the sustainable practices we follow and expect from everyone.
  2. Partnerships for nature. We work with local and environmental organizations so our actions are aligned with the area's management and conservation plans.
  3. Carbon footprint. We are working to measure and reduce our carbon footprint by optimizing logistics and promoting sustainable transport options.
  4. Responsible tourism. We encourage tourism that values and respects the region's natural and cultural wealth, so the race's positive economic impact goes hand in hand with environmental protection.

A call for collective action

Protecting the Chicamocha Canyon is not just the organizers' job: it is a joint effort by every runner, volunteer, sponsor and community member. By taking part in Chicamocha Canyon Race you are not only taking on an impressive physical challenge; you are also joining a movement that runs with awareness and leaves a positive mark in the heart of Santander.

Share these ideas with your running friends so we can raise awareness together. Taking action, now and always, is essential.

Let's run together and care together!
