Announcement 001 of 2022: celebrating ten years of trail

From June 24 to 27, 2022, 700 athletes from 23 countries ran the tenth edition across ten towns in Santander. Here are the winners.

San Gil, Santander, June 27, 2022.

Canyon warriors! Dear runners and Chicamocha Canyon Race community: we are canyon warriors!

From June 24 to 27, San Gil and nine other towns hosted the tenth edition of Chicamocha Canyon Race. On foot, along country lanes and dirt tracks across three Santander provinces, runners crossed the Chicamocha and Suárez river canyons, the Yariguíes mountain range and the ancestral trails of Curití, Aratoca, Cepitá, Jordán, Villanueva, Barichara, Galán, La Fuente, Cabrera and San Gil.

The challenge drew 700 athletes from 23 countries, including the United Kingdom, Guatemala, Venezuela, France, the United States and Peru, across five distances: 10, 23, 45 and 80 kilometers, plus the flagship 100 miles.

The organizers (Ríos y Canoas Colombia, Corporación Deporteza and Chicamocha Canyon Race) celebrated ten years of trail running in Colombia in style, with an unprecedented organization that made up for the difficulty of the courses, compounded by extreme heat, torrential rain, fog and the dark of night.

According to race director Jaime Boada, the greatest satisfaction is seeing trail running grow in Colombia: that year more than 50 races were held across the country. Boada also highlighted the growth of the sport in Santander, whose athletes reached several podiums, no longer only in the short distances but also in the longest ones. "A double satisfaction," he said.
